- Jose Mourinho knew his days were numbered after Man United's loss to Liverpool
- The Portuguese coach was sacked after the humiliating 3-1 loss at Anfield in December
- Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has remained unbeaten in the league since he took over as caretaker manager
Jose Mourinho knew his job was on the line after he lost 3-1 to Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield last December.
According to a Daily Mail report, the Portuguese gaffer had told a couple of close friends through text messages he sensed that the end was near for him.
“I’m done after this," he told members of his inner circle.
However, he also defiantly added: “But I’m not quitting”.
It was not long United chief Ed Woodward ordered for his sack and replaced him with caretaker manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
And the Norwegian had made massive changes to the Red Devils' squad winning 26 points out a possible 30 in the Premier League.
Man United have now found their way in contention for a top-four finish in the league and their last defeat on the domestic scene was ironically Mourinho's last game at Anfield.
In the reverse fixture at old Trafford during the weekend, United continued their unbeaten streak as they held Liverpool to a 0-0 draw, without having a meaning shot on target.
Paul Pogba who was left on the bench at the Merseyside has been in tremendous form since the arrival of the Norwegian boss.
