Juventus identify “another Modric” that will bring the best out of Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo is arguably the best player to ever kick a football, he has smashed records that football legends like Diego Maradona, Andrea Pirlo, Ronaldinho, and many more could not even begin to dream of. The only reason why the Portuguese superstar cannot be certified as the best ever is Lionel Andres Messi.
Ronaldo began his career in Portugal before moving to Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon to become a world beater. His transfer fee of £12.24 million made him, at the time, the most expensive teenager in English football history.
He developed, trained, and did not hide the fact that he nursed the ambition to become the best player in the World. He won everything he could win in England including multiple League titles and the UEFA Champions League. He equaled the record for most goals scored in a single season; a record was broken TEN years after he set it.
Ronaldo then moved to the team he supported as a child, Real Madrid with the aim of becoming more than a legend at the club. He became a legend of the club and established himself as the greatest goalscorer in the history of Real Madrid. He scored more goals for the club than the number of games he played. An almost impossible feat.
Although he won the La Liga just twice in nine seasons, he broke a lot of La Liga records. His 34 La Liga hat-tricks is the most scored by any player in the history of the competition. However, whatever he missed out on in the League winners department, he more than made up for it in the UEFA Champions League which is the normal priority at Real Madrid.
He surpassed Raul Gonzalez’s incredible record of Champions League goals and set a standard that may never be met. He won the golden boot in the Champions League several times and won the competition 5 times in Madrid including three consecutive titles in his last three years.
Surely, we have seen the best of Cristiano Ronaldo. Have we, though? At 34, he moved to Italian Serie A giants Juventus with the aim of winning thr Champions League for them. He got a red card in his first Champions League game for the Turin giants and the first European goal he scored for the team came against his former side, Manchester United.
Juventus were two goals down after the first leg of their Last 16 clash with Atletico Madrid but cometh the hour, cometh the man. Ronaldo scored a sublime hat-trick to send Juventus through to the quarter finals and Juventus’ dream remains alive.
The Turin club are now looking to strengthen their squad by signing midfielders that would create more goalscoring chances for the team. Aaron Ramsey has already been secured on a free and now Juventus are eying another Premier League star that would bring glory to Italy.
Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen could find himself on the move to Serie A this summer after his agent was reported to have held talks with officials from an Italian giant. Eriksen, who has a year left on his current deal in North London, has reportedly attracted interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid as talk of a move away from the capital grows.
The highly rated Dane’s current contract runs out in June 2020, but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is keen to tie the player down to a new long-term contract as the likes of some of European football’s super-powers hover in the background.
However, Calciomercato claims Juventus have held talks with Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots over a surprise switch to the reigning Serie A champions.
They claim Juve are exploring the possibility of bringing Eriksen to Turin this summer, though admit Tottenham’s asking price – Sunday’s papers suggested Daniel Levy is informing suitors he wants a world-record £200m for the player if he moves on this summer – will likely prove prohibitive.
However, Juve have an impressive track record of luring some of the world’s top stars to the club on free transfers; Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey becoming the most recent when it was announced he had agreed a lucrative deal with the club earlier this year.
And it could be that Juve are willing to wait until the player’s contract expires in summer 2020 before making their move, though he would be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement in Turin in just 10 months time.
The Denmark international’s agent Schoots refused to shed light on where his client will be playing his football next season when questioned recently. “I do not want to add to the speculation about Christian’s contract and his future in football,” Schoots told Mundo Deportivo. Right now, he is only focusing on playing.”
Eriksen has netted 12 goals and assisted 10 others in all competitions this term, with Spurs third in the Premier League and due to play Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
