Cristiano Ronaldo proved once again that he is Mr Champions League on Tuesday when he netted a hattrick against Atletico Madrid. Ronaldo’s triple means Juventus go through to the quarterfinal, despite trailing 2-0 on aggregate from the first leg. In the process, the Portugal international broke several records. However, there is still one which is exclusive to his arch-rival, Lionel Messi.

Concise News reports that Juventus overturned a two-nil deficit in their UEFA Champions League Round-of-16 tie against Atletico Madrid. The Bianconeri scored three on the night, winning three-two on aggregate.

One man who has been credited majorly for this remarkable overturn is Cristiano Ronaldo, as it was his treble which sealed the win for Juventus.

Ronaldo’s performance on the night drew plaudits from all over the world as the Portuguese star left the fans and experts awestruck. Moreover, his scoring streak also led to the re-examining of several age-old records, which the former Real Madrid star had surpassed.

The Portugal international scored his eighth hattrick in the Champions League against Atletico, going level with Lionel Messi. Meanwhile, he continued to add to his ever-increasing tally of goals, improving it to one hundred and twenty-four (124).

Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s treble also meant that sixty-three (63) of his one twenty-four goals were scored in the knockout stages, proving once again his value in high-pressure situations.

While the former Real Madrid and Manchester United star has to his name almost all of the Champions League scoring records, there is still one that remains with his arch-rival Lionel Messi. The Argentine maestro has scored sixty-six (66) goals in the group stages of the competition, five more than his Portuguese counterpart (61).

Nevertheless, Ronaldo does hold the individual record of most goals in a single group stage campaign, which he achieved during the 2015/16 season when he scored eleven goals.
