The poorest states in Nigeria according to the national bureau of statistics are:

Sokoto ranking 81.2% mostly due to it’s harsh and unfriendly climate conditions.

Kastina is the next on the list ranking 74.5%

Adamawa follows closely ranking 74.2% mostly due to Boko Haram insurgence.

Gombe is next on the list with 73.2% mostly due to Boko Haram insurgence.

Jigawa with low literacy rate ranks 72.1%.

The former answers can be correct. I don’t really know the true position of most states. But what i know are the richest states. The rich states are the ones who has recognized the importance of IGR (Internally Generated Revenue). Most of them can actually do without the monthly allocation from the federal government. Conversely, the poor states are not really poor in terms of natural resources. The managers of these poor states don’t really see any need to generate revenues internally, maybe some do try but are really not to concerned since there are free handouts from the federal government. All i know is that most of the poorest states are in the up north like Gombe, Jigawa, Sokoto and even Kogi etc.

Yeah there exist desertification in some of them but that’s all the governors use as an excuse. They lack imagination and ideas and likes to surround themselves with no gooders who praise them no matter what they do.

Sorry for digressing, but some of these states can become one of the best tourist hubs in the world if they try. The scenery and landscape we are blessed with can not be compared to any other anywhere.

Back to the question. The ones i know are the rich ones. Lagos comes first, but the others do not follow the order written here.

1 Lagos (Ofcourse)

2 Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers, Kano, Ogun, Kaduna, Edo Anambra
