- President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the alleged Islamisation levelled against him by opposition ahead of election

- In a official statement by his media aide, Femi Adesina, president described the propaganda as dangerous and deceptive

- The president, however, affirmed his commitment to freedom of religion and worship for all Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari has debunked the growing propaganda that he was planning to play ethnic politics and impose Islamic agenda on the secular society of the country.

The president, who promised to rule by the law of country, also affirmed his commitment to freedom of religion and worship for all Nigerians.

The statement read: ''It has come to the notice of President Muhammadu Buhari, ahead of the forthcoming elections, that some unscrupulous Nigerians are again falsely and wickedly claiming that the administration has an agenda to impose Islam on Nigeria.

''The objective is clearly to stoke up religious division for political gains. Some of these same persons made these devious and fabricated claims ahead of the 2015 election. They failed woefully.

''The president strongly affirms the oath he took before the Nigerian people to faithfully defend the Constitution of Nigeria. That constitution guarantees freedom of worship for every Nigerian. It is this guarantee that enables all Nigerians to practise their faiths or religion without hindrance.

''President Buhari further affirms his commitment to freedom of religion and worship for all Nigerians, and that under no circumstance will any religion or faith be imposed on any Nigerian.

''It is dangerous, deceptive and ungodly to play politics with religion.''

Adesina, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday night, February 21, enjoined all television, radio stations and other electronic media outlets to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria for the broadcast.

The Italian economy contracted in the fourth quarter of 2018, dragged down by slowing European growth and global trade tensions, plunging the country into a technical recession, official data showed Thursday. The 0.2 percent contraction — following a 0.1 percent fall in the third quarter — will put pressure on the populist government in the eurozone’s third largest economy, which took power in June on the back of big-spending electoral promises.
